Who Gets to Be Sexy?


When we look at the baggage heaped upon us particularly from the media... as to what types of people and bodies "get to" be considered sexy... desirable... attractive... considered worthy to experience pleasurable sexual experiences... it's quite limiting.

FIT --- YOUNG --- WHITE --- ABLE-BODIED --- HETEROSEXUAL --- TALL IF YOU'RE MALE; PETITE IF YOU'RE FEMALE --- NIPPED & TUCKED --- NO INCORRECT 'HAIR GROWTH' SHOWING --- CERTAIN BREAST OR PENIS SIZE --- FINANCIALLY STABLE/SUCCESSFUL --- CERTAIN IQ --- VIRGINS? OR NOT! (DEPENDING ON AGE, SEX, CULTURE, ETC.) --- ADHERING TO CULTURAL GENDER EXPRESSION EXPECTATIONS

Pretty much every marketing messaging out there is geared towards making sure we do not consider ourselves "enough." Otherwise, why would we purchase whatever product is being pushed? How do we think these messages affect us? How can they become internalized and play a role in our sexual choices and relationships? How have these messages impacted you in particular? These are really important questions to be asking ourselves so we can move into a more mindful, intentional space as to how to combat them. We can become skilled at not having these messages limit our pleasure and potential experiences. We can do something about this!
